GTU to explore the possibility of starting a course on Value Education

Rajkot: Jeevan Vidya Shibir, a training program on Value Education for senior faculty members of Atmiya Group of Institutions (AGI), was organized during 16-23 January, 2017. A session on Universal Human Value Education Through Higher Education Institutions was arranged during the Shibir on 22nd January, 2017.

Prof. (Dr.) Navin Sheth, Vice Chancellor, Gujarat Technological University was the Chief Guest and Dr. Yogesh Yadav, Director, RUSA was Guest of Honor for the session. The session was presided over by Pujya Tyagvallabh Swamiji, Secretary, Sarvoday Kelavani Samaj. Shri Somdevji Tyagi, Prabhodhak of Jeevan Vidya Shibir was keynote speaker.

Dr. J.N.Shah, Director of Atmiya Group of Institutions in his welcome address talked about different activities undertaken by AGI towards Value Education and the way teachers are being transformed to take up teaching human values. He informed that the National and International Conferences on Human Values in Higher Education (HVHE) were organized at AGI last year. He also informed that AGI has taken up Gujarati translation of book on Human Values used as text book in other universities.

Shri Somdev Tyagi, Probhodhak of Jeevan Vidya Shibir, explained that the content of Value Education can be to understand myself, my aspirations, my happiness, understand the goal of human life comprehensively; understand the other entities in nature, the innate inter-connectedness, the co-existence in the nature/existence and finally the role of human being in this nature/existence entirely. Hence, it has to encompass understanding of harmony at various levels namely individual, family, society, nature and existence and finally, learning to live in accordance with this understanding by being vigilant to one’s thought, behavior and work. He asserted that India has the potential to be the World Guru if we strengthen and implement the value education in its true meaning. He also informed that Human Value Education content is universal, logical, practicable and replicable.

A video of Dr. Rajneesh Arora, Ex-VC of Punjab Technological University, Jalandhar sharing his experience of successful implementation of the course on Universal Human Value Education in all the colleges affiliated to University. He was very happy to inform that very positive and encouraging feedback were received from all most all the colleges. Dr. Yogesh Yadav, Director of RUSA in his address endorsed the urgent need of introducing Value Education in Higher Education Institutes. He expressed that inculcation of values must be the inseparable part of education for the holistic development of the students.

Prof. (Dr.) Navin Sheth, Vice Chancellor, Gujarat Technological University in his address stressed upon the need of implementation of universally acceptable human values in education and shown his readiness to explore the possibility of implementing a course on Value Education in GTU. He appreciated the initiatives taken by AGI and steps taken to implement Human Value Education in different constituent institutes of AGI. Dr. Amit Rajdev, Asst. Professor of Atmiya Institute of Management presented glimpses of different Value Based activities and training programs of teachers in last 4 years.

P.P.Tyagvallabh Swamiiji, Secretary, Sarvoday Kelavani Samaj, in his presidential address to august audience, expressed Atmiya Group’s deep rooted commitment for imparting value education. He was of the opinion that we must utilize the experience of IIIT Hyderabad, Punjab Technological University, IIT Delhi, IIT(BHU)Varanasi and Royal University of Bhutan, Thimpu while preparing the roadmap for implementation of course on Human Value Education in HEIs. He was pleased to announce that AGI would like to be the Nodal Center for Human Value Education and offer all support required to spread Value Education. Dr. Alpesh Joshi, Associate Professor of Atmiya Institute of Technology & Science proposed the vote of thanks. Snaps from the event:
